Musica Pacifica returns to Sonoma next week

Musica Pacifica, the Bay Area’s acclaimed baroque ensemble, returns to Sonoma on Friday, Sept. 5 to present “A Continental Supper,” showcasing the works of baroque composers of the 17th and 18th centuries. Musica Pacifica consists of Judith Linsenberg on recorder, Elisabeth Blumenstock on baroque violin, David Morris on baroque cello/viola da gamba and Charles Sherman on harpsichord. Sponsored by the Sonoma Classical Music Society, the program will feature works by Bach, Purcell, Vivaldi, Telemann, Rameau and other Italian baroque composers.
Founded in 1990, Musica Pacifica is recognized as one of North America’s premiere baroque ensembles, having been described as “some of the finest baroque musicians in America” and “among the best in the world.” At home in the San Francisco Bay Area, the artists are members of Philharmonia Baroque, and they appear with many other prominent early music ensembles nationally and abroad.  Their high energy and stylish, virtuoso performances have consistently received enthusiastic reviews from critics and audiences alike. Musica Pacifica has released eight CD recordings on the Dorian label, and their recording of Telemann’s “Chamber Cantatas and Trio Sonatas” won the Chamber Music America and WQXR’s 2003 Record Award honoring the best chamber music recording of the year.
The concert starts at  7 p.m. in Burlingame Hall, 252 W. Spain St. Tickets for the concert are $25 ($20 for members and $10 for students).
