The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art received an exceptional gift from Pamela and John Story for the Charlotte Lamb Exhibition Reserve Fund. The fund was initiated in December 2007 to honor Charlotte Lamb, one of the visionary founders of the museum.
The Story’s gift not only allows SVMA to reach its initial financial goal for the Exhibition Fund, but will also inaugurate the new Education Fund, which will support education programming for children and families throughout Sonoma Valley.
The purpose of the Exhibition Fund is to help SVMA bring exhibits to the museum that might otherwise not be affordable. Most recently, the exhibition fund has helped secure exhibits that have included works by Goya, Picasso and Rauschenberg. Further, SVMA will now be able to commit to important traveling exhibitions, like the upcoming Rembrandt exhibition, well in advance and plan more ancillary programming and catalogs for important exhibits.
In making this major gift to the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, John and Pam Story, long-time supporters of the museum noted, “We wanted to support the museum and its programs during the 10th anniversary year. We are proud to be part of the many accomplishments of SVMA. The building of a successful exhibition program and an educational outreach will help the museum serve our diverse community. Not only does the fund preserve Charlotte’s legacy, but it will ensure the museum’s continued progress. We feel it is one of the centerpieces of the Sonoma cultural community.”
Other significant contributors to the fund include Frank and Arlene Keesling, whose gift memorialized Mary Heath Keesling; Charlotte and Jim Lamb; Buffington and George Miller; Linda and Jim Kuhns; and Kimberly and Simon Blattner.
