Rocket, the catering company-cum-café, tweaked its hours, added new menu items and inaugurated a sushi menu last week.
In addition to its standard 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday schedule, Rocket is re-opening for Happy Hour from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. During those hours, patrons are entitled to a discount: when they order one entrée, can buy a second one of equal or lesser value for half-price.
On Fridays, the café will reopen from 5:30 p.m. until closing (whenever that turns out to be). Now known as Sushi Day, Friday will feature sushi from an extensive menu that debuted last week. Offerings include an “Insanity Roll” with ahi, yellowtail, shiso, watermelon, red cabbage and cucumber, topped with curry oil ($9); “the Sonoma Koma” with white-fish jerky, ahi, peppers, avocado and sambal coconut milk ($11.50); and “Zeke the Freak,” a dish of shrimp, grapefruit, avocado, cucumber, cilantro, sambal aioli and a nose-tickling wasabi tobiko ($10.50).
Non-sushi starters include edamame, miso soup, sunomono and seaweed salad ($3.50 to $4) as well as “High-Grade Greens,” a combination of tofu, sunflower sprouts, cucumber, brocollini, scallions, asparagus and seaweed salad ($8.50). Main courses like Shaka Gnar Gnar will feature seared rare New York steak with tempura shrimp and a citrus-Dijon aioli, among other things ($12).
All of these will probably taste great with ice-cold beer right out of the new keg,
While the weather holds, the best place to sit is the back patio, which is newly furnished with tables, chairs and benches. Rocket also reopens from 4:30 to 6:30 on Saturdays.
Rocket is at 18812 Hwy. 12, Boyes Hot Springs; 707.933.9755.
