Thursday, Oct. 2 marks the beginning of Sonoma Valley High School’s major homecoming week events and the continuation of a week of local and school pride.
The high school’s leadership class has worked hard the last month preparing for homecoming and planning spirit days and lunchtime activities. Spirit Week this year kicked off on Monday with College Day, Tuesday was Nerdy Day which was followed by Wednesday, Wacky Tacky Day. Thursday Oct. 2 is Noma Pride Day and Friday, Oct. 3, will conclude Spirit Week with the annual Float Theme Day. The theme of this year’s floats is classic video games. The freshman class float is based on Pokemon, the sophomores is Pac-Man, the junior float is on Donkey Kong and the senior float is Mario Brothers. Dr. Geiger will be honored as this year’s Homecoming Grand Marshal.
Oct. 2 is also the annual Float Fest in the high school’s student parking lot. Float Fest, a homecoming tradition, gives each class a chance to show off their hard work with the unveiling of their floats amidst a barbecue and live music. The night, complete with a bonfire and the bashing of a Windsor car by the varsity football team, amps up the feeling of school pride,
On Friday students will have the treat of an early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. so they can watch the parade down Broadway at 1 p.m. and get pumped up at the rally on the Plaza for the game against Windsor, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday night, and homecoming weekend comes to a close on Saturday with the homecoming dance at Jacuzzi Family Winery.
