Obituaries

Esther Lucatero passed away peacefully, in Sonoma, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008, at the age of 90. Esther was born on Aug. 30, 1918 in Santa Ines, Michoacan, Mexico. She was the youngest of eight children. At the age of 21 she married Jose Maria Lucatero. They raised their 10 children in Santa Ines and later moved to Sonoma Valley, where they lived for 35 years before retiring and splitting their time between Sonoma and Mexico.
Esther was an avid gardener who loved roses and enjoyed walking and being outdoors. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Francis Solano Catholic Church in Sonoma and could be seen there regularly. She received great joy out of spending time with her family.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jose Maria Lucatero, and two of her children: Rogelio Lucatero and Dora Lucatero. She is survived by her children, Jose and Maria Elena Lucatero, Rosa and Adalberto Gutierrez, Jose Luis Lucatero, Martha and Lolo Fernandez, Mario and Rocelia Lucatero, Gerardo and Lupe Lucatero, Blanca and Luis Echeverria, Lorena and Eddie Barrientos and daughter-in-law Esperanza Lucatero.  She also leaves behind 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and one surviving sister, Glafira Gutierrez.
Esther will be greatly missed by all who knew her and forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved her. As per her wishes, Esther will be laid to rest next to her loving husband in Mexico. A visitation and Rosary were held on Friday, Oct. 17 at Duggan’s Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa St., Sonoma. Donations in her name may be made to the Sonoma Valley Youth Soccer Association, Dora Lucatero Fund, PO Box 1992, Sonoma, CA  95476. Arrangements under the directions of Duggan’s Mission Chapel.

Grace A. Guinan
passed away, at her home in Sonoma, on Oct. 15, 2008. She was 103. A 30-year resident of Sonoma and a native of Ellsworth, Iowa, she was preceded in death by her loving sister Mary Guinan. Clarence A. Cole,
81, died at home, in Sonoma, on Oct. 15, 2008. Clarence was the loving husband of the late Ellen Cole. He was the father of David Cole of Oregon and the late Leonard Cole. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, World War II, and a very dedicated carpenter in Sonoma and Marin County for 30 years. He was a 45-year resident of Sonoma County and a native of San Francisco.
No formal services will be held; private inurnment at sea under the direction of Duggan’s Mission Chapel and Mission Cremation Service.
