Two St. Francis Solano students were among the winners of an essay contest about the importance of trees in our community. Sixth-grader Sofia Lanzafame and Fiona Day, a fifth-grader, won top honors in the contest, which was open to students in both Napa and Sonoma counties and brought in more than 110 entries. Last week, both girls were presented with beautiful tree-inspired trophies by Joe Schneider, owner of the Calisotga-based Pacific Tree Company, sponsors of the competition. The school was presented with two Japanese maple trees, which were planted near the side entrance of St. Francis Church in honor of the girls. The girls and the trees were blessed by Father Mike Kelly.
