Obituaries

Sharron Kathleen Hellman, 72, of Sonoma, died Feb. 14, 2009 at home in Sonoma. Sharron was the wife of the late Duane Hellman and the mother of Dennise Hellman, Diane Gonzales, Deana Hellman, Dawn Hellman and David Hellman. She was the mother-in-law of Rene Hellman and the dear sister of Curtis and Brian Higgins. She was the sister-in-law of Andy Koski and his wife Nancy. Sharon was the loving grandmother of 13 and is also survived by a cousin, Annie Ellyson. She leaves behind her loyal dog and loving companion, Bear.
Sharron was a dedicated mom and very active in her children’s extracurricular activities. She was the founder and proprietor, along with her husband, of the Sonoma Industrial Park on Eighth Street. She was a 65-year resident of Sonoma County and a native of Los Angeles.
Friends are invited to a celebration of life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Duggan’s Mission Chapel, 525 W. Napa St. Private inurnment will be held at the Valley Cemetery, Sonoma. Donations in Sharron’s memory to The American Diabetes Association, Hospice by the Bay and/or Hanna Boys Center are preferred by the family.

Candice L. Meek, 59, died peacefully in her home in Sonoma on Jan. 6, 2009. Candice was born on May 24, 1949 to Foster L. and C. Leona Meek in Carlisle, Penn. She spent her childhood in LaPorte, Ind. and graduated from Rolling Prairie High School. She attended Indiana University at Bloomington and received her degree in 1972. Candice continued to live in Bloomington, Ind. from 1972 to 1981. While in Bloomington, she became a cook at the Earth Kitchen, a vegetarian restaurant, which was one of the first co-operatively owned businesses in that state. She was instrumental in the inception of Sunflower Bakery, a part of BloomingFoods Co-op. Her baking recipes were published in natural food cookbooks. After a brief stay in New Orleans, Louis., she resided in Boulder, Colo. from 1982 to 1997. She lived in Northern California for 11 years, most recently in Sonoma, where she was the Director of Business Development for Christofle Silver, of Paris, France.
Candice loved fashion, travel, cooking, and wine and had great enthusiasm for current events. She had a talent for surrounding herself with beauty in both her home and natural surroundings, which she enthusiastically shared with those she knew. Her greatest gift was her innate sense of grace, which allowed her to create and keep lasting bonds wherever she lived and traveled.
Candice is survived by Paul Kent, her partner of 25 years, her sister Daneen Meek Janszen Chapple, nieces Aimee Rogers-Wilson and Nikki Meek, and nephews Terry and A.J. Meek, and their families, and her dear friend Barbara Stutz.
Private inurnment will take place at a later date. The cremation was performed by Mission Cremation Service, under the direction of Duggan’s Mission Chapel.

William G. Richards
died at the age of 90, in Sonoma, California, on Jan. 7, 2009. Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, raised in Salt Lake City, he attended East High School and University of Utah, where he earned a degree in Mining Engineering. As President of the Sigma Chi fraternity, he was known as Cupcake.
Bill attended submarine school in New London, Connecticut and served in the Navy as Lieutenant Commander on 13 war patrols in the south Pacific during WWII. Bill married Mary Alice Woolley in 1944. He enjoyed a 42-year long career with Ingersoll Rand Company.
Bill is survived by his three siblings, Paul, John and Mary; his three children, Jill, Will and Robyn; six grandchildren, Giancarlo, Avery, Marie, Gus, Ramona and Sam. He enjoyed the honor of being a great-grandfather to Khalil, Ayamila and Siena Rose. He was lovingly called “Gramps” by family and friends alike. We will miss his wisdom, sense of humor and loving nature.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the U.C. Berkeley Botanical Gardens Conference Center on Sunday, Feb.22 at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will be with his late wife in Honolulu, Hawaii.
