More showers this weekend

More rain is predicted for this weekend, on the heels of one of the biggest winter storms this season. The showers let up this week, but National Weather Service predictions show clouds rolling in on Friday night and a 40 percent chance of rain on Saturday. Rain is likely on Sunday.
“The overall large-scale pattern has kind of changed,” said Brian Tentinger, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. There had been a high-pressure pattern causing storms to head north and east of California’s central coast, riding up and over the ridge and not hitting the Valley.
The Sonoma Valley got 4.6 inches of rain between Wednesday and Sunday last week, according to a meter at Vallejo’s Home State Park. The total rainfall in Sonoma to date stands at 13.63 inches as of Wednesday morning, compared to 18.91 inches at this time last year.
Most of Northern California is considered to be in severe to extreme drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. It would take quite a few more storms to recharge the reservoirs.
