Somebody might be passing counterfeit hundred-dollar bills in the Sonoma Valley area. Deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department has asked residents to be on the alert.
On Feb. 17, an employee of a retail shop on the 100 block of First Street West, tried to deposit a $100 bill at Bank of America and was told it was a counterfeit. The store had accepted the bill on Feb. 12 from a Hispanic male between age 20 and 25 who purchased a dog bowl. Store employees reported he had more than one of the bills. Local store owners can purchase a pen that chemically detects phony bills.
Watch out for phony $100s
