Donald R. Allee, Don was born September 25, 1928 in Fruita, Colo. He passed away peacefully February 24, 2009 but lives in the hearts and minds of his family and friends. He spent his youth in Grand Junction, Colo., and most of his adult years in California. His occupations were many, including running successful landscaping and nursery businesses. While working at UC Davis, he studied horticulture, and that became his passion for the rest of his life. Don was a lifetime member of the Valley of the Moon Garden Club, enjoying sharing his knowledge and love of gardening and participating in projects to beautify Sonoma.
Don is survived by son David and his wife Carolyn of Raymond, Washington; son Donald of Ontario, Oregon; sisters Betty Slater, Virgie Schwartz, Janein Newman of Reno, Nevada, Alberta (Lea) Gunn of Twin Falls, Idaho; brother Charles (Chuck) of Thousand Palms, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and his loving companion Mary Ann Gooschin. Don was preceded in death by his sister Linda Eichling of Sonoma, his wife Rowena and brother Lyle of Grand Junction, and grandchildren Angelika and Adrian Allee.
Private inurnment. The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, a food bank to help those in need at this time or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements by Duggan’s Mission Chapel, Sonoma.
Anna Rita Freitas, (Carlomagno), “Ann”, 76, passed away peacefully at home in Sonoma on March 2, 2009. She was born on December 5, 1932 in San Francisco to Frederick and Rafaela Carlomagno. Ann was a tireless volunteer and she worked very closely with the Roman Catholic Church in ministering to the sick and comforting those in loss. She was active in her local Italian Catholic Federation and she participated in many of their events. Ann was a Hospital volunteer and she loved to travel with her husband to many places and enjoyed cruising along the coast as well as the Caribbean. She was an 18-year resident of Sonoma.
Ann is survived by her husband of 56 years, Don; her sons: Donald, Jr. (daughter-in-law Carrie), and Steven (daughter-in-law Linda), her brother, Frank; her grandchildren: Christina and Timothy; and her great grandchildren Bella and Junior. She is also survived by many more family members, godchildren and friends.
Friends attended during visitation on Wednesday until 7 p.m., with a vigil service afterward, at Duggan’s Mission Chapel. On Thursday, a funeral service was held in Duggan’s Mission Chapel, with a funeral mass afterward at St. Francis Solano Church and interment at St. Francis Solano Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations in Ann’s name made to Hospice by the Bay, 190 West Napa Street, Sonoma. Arrangements under the direction of Duggan’s Mission Chapel.
