On Tuesday, when the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors reconvened for its afternoon session, it was with sadness that they learned of the resignation of Andrea Mackenzie, the general manager for the agricultural preservation and open space district. Mackenzie has served the district for 12 years, eight of them as general manager.
“My decision to depart from the district and my colleagues and friends in Sonoma County is a very difficult one, but the time is right for me to transition to new professional challenges,” Mackenzie said. “I leave the district, proud of our accomplishments, including the protection of 75,000 acres and its recognition as one of the nation’s top open space programs. I am confident that the management and staff have the leadership capability to build upon what we have accomplished in my eight years as in this position.”
Mackenzie leaves the district on April 20 for her new position as the project director of a conservation effort in Santa Cruz County.
“It is impossible to calculate the immeasurable value of Andrea Mackenzie’s work on behalf of the district,” said Supervisor Shirlee Zane. “She has given her incredible creative energy toward the mission of the district, which will benefit generations to come. She will be sorely missed.”
