Local soccer coach booked on sex charges

Friday evening in West Hollywood, Sonoma County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Greg Tatton, 43, formerly coach of the under-17 girls “Arsenal” Division 1 youth soccer team from Sonoma.

The warrant for his arrest reportedly included several counts of lewd acts with a 14-15 year old, but according to Sgt. Dave Thompson, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department’s Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit is continuing the investigation. The team roster listed 16 players, including Tatton’s daughter and the daughters of the assistant coach and team manager. Detective Jake Vivian at the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department’s Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit is working the case and can be contacted at 565-7600.

According to the records of the Sonoma Valley Youth Soccer Association, Tatton was fired over a year ago, starting with his arrest on Nov. 5, 2007, on charges of vehicle registration fraud. SVYSA suspended him a week later “from any and all activities of any kind related to CYSA and any of its affiliated leagues,” and then two days after that he was “suspended from coaching in any capacity a SVYSA team (to include US Club Soccer).”  No official word as to what transpired next, but on Dec. 7, 2007, an “Emergency Protection Order was granted … to restrain Greg from contacting a minor registered with SVYSA.”

Tatton was booked into the Los Angeles County Jail, with bail set at $150,000. No date was released for his transportation back to Sonoma County.
