Bill Lucas

Bill Lucas, long-time Glen Ellen resident, passed away Thursday morning, April 2. He was 79 years old. Born in Briar Town, Okla. on July 1, 1929 to Pearl and Levi Lucas, he was the youngest of six children. The most important thing in the world to Bill was his family and he cherished every moment ever spent with them. He was greatly adored and will be so sadly missed by each and every one. To his family he was the most honest, loving and loyal man there ever was. Bill met Bettie, whom he called “his china doll,” in 1943 in Benicia and they were married October 1, 1947, in Reno, Nev. He was a volunteer firefighter in Glen Ellen in the 1950s and worked for the Sonoma Developmental Center for 30 years as a psychiatric technician as well as the Eldridge fire department. He retired in 1986. Bill loved garage sales; he would spend his weekends with Bettie mapping out the sales in the valley so he would not miss even one or ever have to back track. Bill also enjoyed cooking; there was hardly a time you’d stop by the house, and he wouldn’t offer you some sort of treat. Bill was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and loved to study with his wife and other members of the congregation.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Bettie; his loving daughter Connie Willis and her husband Dave, whom Bill considered a son, of Glen Ellen; his cherished grandchildren, David and his wife Aura of Petaluma; Melissa Steiner and husband Gary also of Glen Ellen and four much adored great grandchildren Kristen, Troy, Grace and Jack, his little “dude.” Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Bill.
He was preceded in death by his parents Pearl and Leo Feeney and Levi Lucas; three brothers: Jack, Homer and Dockey; as well as two sisters, Jean and Mickey; two sons, Ron and Kevin and most recently their wonderful little daschund, Sammy.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 7 p.m. on April 17 at the Kingdom Hall, located at 615 Fifth St. W. Arrangements cared for by Duggan’s Mission Chapel and Mission Cremation Service.
