On Wednesday evening Nov. 15, members of the integrative medicine community will gather with Cal VanderWoude to dedicate the new Hal Broderick Healing Garden. VanderWoude and Broderick were known to their many friends here at Sonoma Valley Hospital as Cal and Hal. It was Cal’s wish to honor Hal with this living memorial garden. The garden was made possible through the philanthropy of VanderWoude as well as the generosity and design talents of Sonoma Mission Gardens, Carol Kelly, Keith and Cherie Hughes and the Integrative Medicine Network Providers. Patricia Brooks, director of the Integrative Medicine Program at the hospital said in a statement, “The Garden will continue to evolve. Discussions of a mural are underway and the hope is to eventually have a large fountain and a children’s play wall for our young visitors. Some of our employees have added their own personal touches to make this a quiet and healing retreat for patients, families, visitors and employees.”
The dedication will be a celebratory occasion inspired by the singing of The Threshold Choir.
The public is welcome to come visit the garden in the central courtyard of the hospital and hopefully will benefit from the calm nature of the environment and the generosity of our community.
