Oakland police officer Christopher Delrosario was due to answer to charges today for reportedly attempting to grab a woman on Sept. 1 in Sonoma and then brandishing a handgun at two bystanders who tried to help her.
At a preliminary hearing in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Elliot Daum found there was sufficient evidence to have Delrosario stand trial on one count of felony assault with a semi-automatic firearm, two counts of brandishing a firearm at a person in a vehicle, and one misdemeanor count of committing domestic violence.
Two witnesses testified that on Sept. 1 they saw a woman walking alone on Napa Street late at night. They were concerned because the weather was cold, the woman had no jacket, and she was repeatedly looking over her shoulder. As they turned to offer assistance, Delrosario pulled his vehicle next to the woman. Both witnesses observed the defendant grab the woman and attempt to pull her into his vehicle. When the witnesses attempted to stop the assault, Delrosario pulled a semi-automatic firearm from his waistband and pointed it at both witnesses’ heads.
Delrosario was located a short time later at a nearby hotel. After repeatedly denying he had a firearm with him, officers found a semi-automatic firearm concealed under the hood of his vehicle.
