Marin and southern Sonoma Democrats who live in the 6th Assembly District are invited to help select delegates to the California Democratic Party’s State Convention to be held April 27-29 in San Diego. Delegates for the 6th Assembly District will be elected on Jan. 14, at 2 p.m., at the Marinwood Recreation Center at 775 Miller Creek Road in San Rafael. There will be a $5 charge to defray the cost of the site which will be waived in cases of economic hardship.
The 6th Assembly District is represented by Jared Huffman. In order to vote at the meeting, a person must live in the district and have been registered as a Democrat in time to vote in the November 2006 election. To run as a delegate, individuals must also fill out a form available at the California Democratic Party Web site, www.cadem.org under the heading “Assembly District Elections Meetings” on the home page. This form must be received by the State Democratic Party no later than Jan. 2, for an individual to be eligible to run for delegate.
At the Jan. 14 gathering, 12 delegates (six women and six men) will be chosen to serve a two-year term as members of the Democratic State Central Committee. They are required to attend the State Conventions in 2007 and 2008. They elect officers of the state party and the California delegation to the Democratic National Committee. They serve on committees, decide how the California Democratic Party conducts business, who and what it endorses, and what the party stands for.
