With the win, the Dragons’ fourth in a row, the locals improve to 6-1-1 overall and 4-1 in the Sonoma County League with only one league game remaining. The Dragons are in the middle of a three-way SCL tie with Healdsburg and Casa Grande after the Gauchos’ 30-7 victory at Healdsburg last night.
Next week the Dragons travel to historic Kezar Stadium in San Francisco to take on tough non-league rival Sacred Heart with kickoff schedule for 7:00 p.m. Live coverage on KSVY 91.3 begins at 6:45 pm.
The Dragon defense, which allowed 253 yards passing to Analy’s prolific quarterback David Glass in the first half, yielded only 62 yards through the air in the second half. The defense put the Dragons on the board first when senior Nick Pappas stepped in front of a Glass pass and raced 35 yards to the end zone for a 6-0 lead.
On the night the Dragons would intercept Glass five times. In addition to Pappas’ timely pick, Tyler Lunney, Sean Lind, Matt McGunagle and Michael Mulas also had interceptions.
The Dragons were able to generate touchdown drives in the second and fourth quarters despite the offense suffering some major injuries. Senior tailback Jayce Ray was injured on the opening kickoff and standout receiver Steven Filippi missed the game due to illness.
Matt Darnell rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown and Jake Powers hit Nate Rowland with a 15-yard score for the final Dragon touchdown. Senior Devon McCauley contributed with two field goals, from 26 and 32 yards to complete the Dragon scoring.
The Dragon victory followed a familiar script that has been repeated throughout the 2007 season. Once again Sonoma has employed a tough defense and solid special teams coupled with a big play to secure the victory.

Police have identified 17-year-old Juan Calderon of Boyes Hot Springs as the homicide suspect who fired the shotgun that killed Luis Miranda, also 17 and also of Boyes Hot Springs, Monday evening in Sonoma.
Calderon is one of three suspects being held in what police are calling the gang-related killing of Miranda at Maxwell Farms Regional Park following, allegedly, a heated verbal dispute between Miranda and the three who have been identified by police as members of the Sureño gang. Police maintain that Miranda was a member of another rival gang, although his friends have repeatedly denied he was a member of any gang.
Calderon appeared in court Thursday with the two other suspects, who are Juan Carlos Perez, 24, of American Canyon and Javier Ceja, 19, of Sonoma. The three are being held without bail on suspicion of murder of Miranda. They are scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 2.
