For the past ten years our older Girl Scout troops have run a Christmas tree recycling program working directly with Sonoma County Waste Management, Sonoma Garbage, and Empire Waste Management to recycle (compost) Christmas trees in Sonoma Valley. The Girl Scouts will cart away and recycle discarded Christmas trees for a $5 requested donation for trees under six feet and $10 requested donation for trees over six feet. These trees will be recycled and composted. The donations will benefit Girl Scouts. Trees should be at curbside with the donation under your mat. Tax deductible receipts will be given.
Tree collections will take place from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekends of December 29, January 5, and January 14. Those wishing to take advantage of this program should remove tree stands, wooden or otherwise. No flocking or fake snow, no ornaments or tinsel will be accepted. The public “drop-off” site for the recycling program is at the Veterans Memorial Building Parking lot off of First Street West.
Girl Scouts will be distributing flyers announcing this recycling service to most neighborhoods with details about the service. All areas will be covered on all weekends. It is not necessary to call ahead, but information may be obtained, or a pickup requested, by calling 576-6005 (voice mail) or the telephone number for the individual troop indicated on the flyer.
If you have any questions call (707) 938-6786.
