Voters in Sonoma County matched the statewide vote on three of the seven statewide ballot measures in Tuesday’s voting; all three failed to pass.

State: Y 42% N 58%
#92 Community Colleges. Funding. Governance. Fees.
County: Y 38% N 62%

#93 Limits on Legislators’ Terms in Office.

County voters rejected the proposed expansion of southern California casinos, but voters in other areas voted in favor in sufficient numbers to pass all four measures:
#94, 95, 96, 97 Casino Expansion
County: Y 36% N 64%
State: Y 56% N 44%
At California polling places, there was reported some confusion as voters not registered as Democrats sought in unexpected numbers to vote in that primary. Hilary Clinton got 52 percent of the vote and 42 delegates, while Barack Obama got 42 percent of the vote and 23 delegates. Sonoma County voters preferred Obama over Clinton, by a margin of 48 to 44 percent. And across the country, Obama won in several states, trailing Clinton overall now by only a few committed delegates.
For the Republicans, California’s was a closed primary. McCain got 42 percent of the votes statewide, to Romney’s 34 and Huckabee’s 12 percent. The preference among Republicans in Sonoma County was even stronger: 49 percent McCain, to Romney’s 14 and Huckabee’s 11 percent. Nationally, while each of these candidates has won in some states, McCain has well over the half the delegates awarded so far, and the February 5 results appear to have solidified his commanding lead.
