Friday crash injures five on Highway 12

Arnold Drive crash

A five-vehicle chain-reaction collision Friday morning at the intersection of Highway 12 and Arnold Drive closed the roadway for 1-1/2 hours but caused no major injuries.
The crash occurred around 11:35 a.m., when a 70-year-old Santa Rosa woman speeding southbound on Highway 12 in a 2001 Honda failed to stop before rear-ending a 2007 Honda Pilot driven by a 30-year-old Novato woman and pushing it into the back of a 1999 Toyota driven by a 73-year-old Santa Rosa woman. The Pilot then bounced into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a 49-year-old Vineburg man driving a 1979 GMC pickup truck. Meanwhile, the Toyota continued into the rear of a 1985 Nissan pickup truck waiting at the Highway 12-Arnold Drive traffic light.
Five of the six people involved were transported to Kaiser and Memorial hospitals in Santa Rosa complaining of pain and minor injuries. All five drivers, including the 59-year-old Manteca man in the Nissan, were wearing safety belts, as was the Toyota’s 73-year-old male passenger from Sonoma. No arrests were made.
