Vandals run amok on eastside

Five cars were damaged in an overnight rampage last week that roused dogs but not residents of an east Sonoma neighborhood.
A deputy responded Sunday morning, Nov. 2, to the 800 block of Oak Lane, where – sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. – someone had broken out the front windshield of a Chevrolet Impala by striking it twice with a board or baseball bat, sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Stashyn said. The attack also damaged the car’s trim, bringing the estimated damage total to $1,000, and Stashyn added that the victim’s wife said she thought she heard something in the night but didn’t see anyone.
While the deputy was interviewing the Oak Lane couple, a neighbor walked up from the 300 block of Chase Street to say someone had entered his Ford Explorer during the night and removed the CD cartridge from the truck’s central console – but not from the truck itself.
Another Ford Explorer, this one in Oak Lane’s 700 block, was soon discovered with a bent antenna, and further investigation in Chase Street’s 400 block disclosed a broken antenna on a Chevrolet Camaro and a bent antenna on a Nissan Titan. The latter’s owner said he was woken by his dogs barking around 1 a.m., Stashyn said, adding that damage to each antenna was estimated at $40.
Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to call the Sonoma Police Department at 707.996.3602.
