Drunk man’s attempt to escape custody fails both times

A Sonoma man is currently being held in Sonoma County Jail on
four different charges stemming from an incident that started at Broadway Market, proceeded to Bonneau’s Towing, and ended at a transfer site at Pythian Road near the Santa Rosa city limits.
According to a report from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department, at about 6:30 p.m., David Booth. 40, was seen drunk in the parking lot at Broadway Market when eyewitnesses in the area called police to attend to the situation.
Police arrived at the scene, where the eyewitnesses told the deputies that Booth had gotten into his car and headed southbound on Broadway towards Schellville in his 1997 burgundy Nissan Frontier. Another witness had followed Booth in her vehicle.
When the officers began their pursuit, they were advised that the car had headed westbound on Highway 121 towards the Route 116 junction. The car then stopped at Bonneau’s, and Booth exited the car.
Deputies arrived at the scene and saw Booth attempt to flee custody once Booth caught sight of the police. Deputies then flagged him down, threatening the use of their Tasers if he did not comply. Booth stopped fleeing and was apprehended by officers.
The officers returned to their vehicle to conduct a sobriety test, where Booth was found to be over the legal alcohol limit. He was handcuffed and placed in the car for transport to Sonoma County Jail.
However, the story does not end with the first apprehension.
Due to staffing, a site had been set up at Pythian Road north of Kenwood so that Sonoma’s local sheriff’s department could transfer custody to the local sheriff assigned to the main Santa Rosa office for transport to the jail.
When the Sonoma officers arrived to transfer custody to the Santa Rosa police, they had to release Booth in order to hand him over to Santa Rosa.
Upon removal of the handcuffs, Booth attempted to escape again, prompting all officers involved to resort to the use of their Tasers. While Booth was being apprehended a second time, he tried to take a Taser from an officer to use himself, but was held down before he was able to use it.
Booth was finally apprehended and taken to Sonoma County Jail by the Santa Rosa police contingency. He is being charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and attempting to escape police custody, which are all misdemeanors. Booth is also being charged with attempting to remove a weapon from a police officer, which has been labeled a felony.
