Three Highway 12 projects set to begin Monday, Jan. 5 have been put on hold due to weather. Work may begin midweek, but is more likely to start on Monday, Jan. 12, according to the California Department of Transportation.
The first project, daytime sidewalk and street improvement work along Highway 12 in the Springs area, is a continuation of the work started in late December that affected areas from Mary’s Pizza Shack to the Fruit Basket in Boyes Hot Springs. The work is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, Jan. 9. CalTrans plans to keep one lane open in each direction during construction, a traffic shift that may eliminate the center turn lane in certain areas. Neighboring homes and businesses are warned that work will be noisy and may cause minor access inconveniences, including traffic delays estimated between five and 10 minutes in one or both directions.
The second project is the removal of approximately 120 trees along Highway 12 near Glen Ellen, between Trinity Road and Arnold Drive. The work will be done weekdays between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and will continue for three to four weeks. The tree removal is the first stage of the widening, roadway realignment and signal relocation project in that area. For every tree removed, two trees are to be replanted on site or at other locations. In addition, other vegetation will be planted on site.
Night work to repair sidewalks along Boyes Boulevard was tentatively scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 5, depending on the weather. Traffic delays and lane closures are expected during that work, as well. CalTrans suggests that drivers exercise extra caution to protect the work crews during these improvement projects.
