About 300 gallons of sewage bubbled up out of a manhole and into storm drains near Fourth Street East and Spain Street at 9 a.m. Monday morning. The wastewater managed to reach Nathanson Creek before clean-up crews made it to the scene, according to Brad Sherwood of Sonoma County Water Agency. The SCWA will send a biologist to the scene to figure out how to clean up the spill. The crew was still investigating the blockage at press time. Sherwood said there are many old pipes in the city, which are 15being replaced on an ongoing basis. He said pipe collapses are rare, but that blockages do occur, often because people dump grease down their kitchen sinks.
