The Sonoma Valley Inn hopes to nearly double in size with the addition of 70 rooms to its current 80 rooms. The hotel has an average occupancy of over 80 percent and has noticed that on some weekends, there simply aren’t enough rooms in town. The project will be contiguous to the current building, to the northwest. The inn recently purchased the building that used to hold the printing press of Sonoma Valley Publishing from the Lynch family, which retains the front buildings.
Such a large project is never a quick one, however.
Stephen Dale, general manager of Sonoma Valley Inn, anticipates that it will take at least a year to get final plans approved and may be as long as three years before the construction is 100 percent complete.
His staff have been going through due diligence and working with the Sonoma City Council and the planning commission and the design review board, all of which will review the design.
“We want no surprises when we present the final plan,” said Dale.
