The Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation was able to meet the needs of several hospital departments last month with a donation in the amount of $12,832, which is being put to immediate use sponsoring the acquisition of an automatic external defibrillator (AED) for the Rehabilitation Therapies department; a new exercise treadmill for the Cardiac Rehab Department; and practitioner’s locking caster seats for the Carolyn J. Stone Center for Women’s Health & Wellness. In addition, the Foundation helped to purchase a needed warranty for a cardiac transport monitor for the cardiopulmonary department.
Mark Sipes is the director of occupational health and rehabilitation services for Valley Physical Therapy, a part of Sonoma Valley Hospital located at 18971 Sonoma Highway, across from McDonald’s restaurant. The organization was the recipient of an AED for its office as a result of the donation. According to Sipes, the survival rate for a heart attack jumps from just five percent to 80 percent in facilities where an AED is installed.
“We are grateful that the Foundation could provide us with the money to provide this device for our patients,” said Sipes. “At any moment, someone can suffer a heart attack, and the AED decreases the risk of death for our patients, making all of us much more comfortable.”
The Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation relies on local support to help provide a financial boost to the hospital as it tries to meet the continually changing needs of its many departments.
