School superintendent, Dr. Pam Martens, to speak at Soroptimist program meeting

The public is invited to come hear Dr. Pamela Martens, Sonoma Valley Unified School District superintendent speak at the noon Soroptimist meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Fiorini Bakery & Café.
Dr. Martens will talk about the challenges of public schools in Sonoma Valley. She has more than 30 years experience in the educational field, as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. She will share her ideas and views about the future direction of California education as affected by the recession, demographic changes and community involvement. During her professional career, she has collaborated with several nonprofit organizations, local businesses and county social services to provide additional services for students.
Soroptimist is an international volunteer service organization of business and professional women, who work to improve the lives of women and children in local communities and throughout the world. Soroptimists of Sonoma Valley have been serving the community and funding community services and projects since 1960. Next year will mark the club’s 50th anniversary, and special activities will be planned during the year to mark this milestone.
Fiorini Bakery & Café is located at 248 West Napa Street, Sonoma. Lunch will be served and is optional to guests for a cost of $16.
