Woodland Star principal requests part-time status for 2010-2011 school year

Sheila Reilly, principal of Woodland Star Charter School has requested the school’s charter council consider allowing her to work in a part-time capacity in the upcoming school year, 2010-2011, citing a return to a more balanced life with her family as the primary reason. She has suggested to the council that another person be hired part-time to share the role.

In a letter sent home to parents at the school, Reilly stated, “I love spending time with my family and I want to be able to have more time and energy available to be with them. I don’t want to look back with regret over lost or missed time.” She continued, saying she cares deeply for the school community and wishes to continue serving the school, students, teachers and community.

Reilly helped craft the principal position when she accepted the job last year. During her tenure as principal the school, due to state funding constraints, has been without administrative support in the form of a curriculum director, an administrative assistant or a head of finance. As stated in the letter, Reilly doesn’t see funding levels from the state increasing in the near future and feels her move to part-time is in the best interest of the school at this time.
Reilly will continue in a full-time capacity through June 30, 2010. The school has just begun recruiting potential candidates for the other part-time position and Reilly would like to see someone with teaching experience who can function in a “quasi-“ curriculum director capacity as well as being an administrator, without creating a budget increase.
