Sonoma Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) Superintendent Louann Carlomagno and the SVUSD Board of Trustees have hired Dino Battaglini as principal of Sonoma Valley High School, pending formal approval at the April 13th board meeting.
Beginning as a counselor at Parkway Heights Middle School, in South San Francisco, in 1994, Battaglini moved to the role of vice principal in 1998 where he spent one year at Pittsburg High School and an additional nine years in this role at Antioch High School in the East Bay. In July 2007, Battaglini accepted the high school principal position at Tomales High School. During his tenure at Tomales High School Battaglini secured a six-year Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation, aligned course work to requirements set forth by state colleges, and provided academic support classes to ensure success for all students. Battaglini is bilingual – speaking Spanish in addition to English – and brings a wealth of experience in building a strong united school community, engaging all families in the school’s educational mission.
Battaglini’s selection concludes an extensive nationwide search process, coordinated by the search firm of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, and involving input from a variety of stakeholders. The selection process, which considered the applications of nearly fifty candidates, involved screening and interview panels composed of community members, students, and staff.
Battaglini and his family; wife Monica and children Pilar (20), Valentino (10) and Olivia (9) will be present at the April 13 school board meeting held at the Community Meeting Room.
