Construction on Napa Road could snarl traffic

Waterline installation and related bridge work on Napa Road between Broadway and Larkin Avenue is scheduled to begin April 29. Throughout the course of construction, which should take approximately 75 days, traffic in the area will be subject to delays. Drivers are urged to take alternative routes or allow time to accommodate potential delays.
The work is part of the Napa Road Waterline Extension Project. With questions about the construction, call the Water Operations Supervisor at 933.2231.

Chamber hosts election update breakfast

Louann Carlomagno, superintendent of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District, is the featured speaker at the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce’s “Education and June Election Update” breakfast forum on Friday, April 23.

Also on the program is Lisa Schaffner, executive director of the Sonoma County Alliance, with an election update of issues important to local businesses. Student internships will be discussed, and member Mick Chantler will be honored with the chamber’s Business Education Roundtable “Pete Peterson” Award.

The breakfast forum will be held at the Sonoma Golf Club, with registration and networking beginning at 7 a.m., and with the formal program running from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Registration is $35 per person, $50 for nonmembers, and reservations required at 996.1033

Community forum on underage drinking

A discussion about underage drinking in the Sonoma Valley, where 37 percent of 11th graders engage in binge drinking on a regular basis, will be held Wednesday, April 28 at Altimira Middle School from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Topics will include: underage alcohol consumption and the developing brain; underage drinking laws; and alcohol related teenage assault. The forum will be hosted by the Sonoma Valley Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking. The Sonoma Friday Night Live Youth Chapter will also present its short film on the consequences of underage consumption of alcohol, which is the most widely abused substance among American youth ages 12-20.
