School district’s Ashley Halliday resigns

Posted on June 15, 2010 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Sonoma Valley Unified School District Director of Human Resources Ashley Halliday will be leaving the District at the end of the month for a position in Napa Valley Unified School District. “Ashley has served this District well for over 19 years, and we will miss him. This is a wonderful new opportunity for him and Napa Valley is getting a great instructional leader,” said SVUSD Board President Helen Marsh.

Halliday was first hired in 1991 as the Principal of Sassarini School. He worked there through 1999 and was then assigned to oversee the Bond funded construction campaign going on in the district. Between 1999 and 2002 Halliday worked as the liaison between the various construction projects and the SVUSD, representing the district through facilities modernization and building construction at all of the district’s school sites, as well as the construction of Adele Harrison Middle School. In 2000, Halliday took responsibility for the department of human resources and has worked as the department’s director since that time.

“I have deeply conflicted feelings about leaving the district. I’ve been involved with the families and staff of Sonoma Valley for a long time. It will be difficult to let go of those relationships. At the same time, the position in Napa is a great step for me professionally. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities in Napa.” Halliday grew up in Napa and still has family living in the area.

“This is a great opportunity for Ashley and we wish him the very best. He has always been an advocate for giving the students of Sonoma Valley the very best education possible and he will do the same in Napa,” said SVUSD Superintendent Louann Carlomagno. The District is in the process of developing a plan for the oversight of the human resources department. During these challenging fiscal times, the district will consider a number of options during the transition with a cautious eye toward overall district costs.
