Sonoma came together as a community this week to say goodbye to former mayor and fire chief Al Mazza. After his funeral at St. Francis Solano, dozens of fire trucks and emergency response vehicles processed from the church, around the Plaza and to the School-Vista Fire Station in one last tribute to this fine man. He will be missed throughout Sonoma.
As a community, we come together often. To celebrate – like on the Fourth of July, or at this weekend’s Red & White Ball and Wine Country Half Marathon – to mourn, or simply to enjoy the bounty of our City at events like the Tuesday Night Farmers Market.
As a newspaper, The Sun strives to provide free local coverage of news and events of our community. We list our drop locations in the paper each week where locals and tourists can pick up a copy of The Sun. For those interested, home delivery of the paper is available for a nominal $25 annual fee (contact circulation at 933-0101).
As many of you know, our paper has undergone some big changes in the last few months, the least of which is our new ownership of The Sun. As partners, we are having a great time running a business and making the paper our own. But make no mistake, this isn’t something we can do alone. As a community resource, we need each and every reader and supporter of The Sun to be a reporter at large. You see news? Call us. Happen upon a great photo opp? Take a shot and send it to us.
In return, we will continue to go out of our way to support Sonoma. We recently ran a free classified ad for a young man who wanted to start a babysitting business. He had a client almost immediately. That makes us feel really good about what we do.
We’re always happy to publicize your new business, the book you’ve written or the play you’ll be in. We love to tout school and academic successes. In fact, including news of the Valley’s children is one of our favorite things.
Sports is certainly one place where children shine and we are currently on the hunt for a new sports writer – someone who is passionate about local sports and not afraid to go out of his or her way to cover teams all over the Valley. If you’re interested in writing for us, give us a call. In the meantime, whether it’s soccer, wrestling, swimming, baseball, or more, community members are invited to send sports news and photos to us at sports@sonomasun.com.
Whatever the case, help us continue to bring you the news. If we don’t know about it, we can’t write about it. Sonoma is our town and we delight in showing it off. As always, story ideas are always welcome. Send them to us at news@sonomasun.com.
