While the pilot is out of one hospital, the passenger of the single engine plane that crashed Saturday into a Sonoma industrial park remains in serious but stable condition at a Walnut Creek facility.

Mark Johnson of Santa Rosa was extricated from the wreckage near Sonoma Skypark and airlifted to John Muir Medical Center.

Paul Landsdorf, the pilot of the downed aircraft, has been released after treatment at Santa Rosa Memorial, where he was flown by Sheriff’s helicopter.

The accident occurred about 1:15 p.m. Skies were clear and winds light as the single engine Qualt aircraft took off, heading west, from the airpark on Eight Street East.

There were reports the plane seemed to be low powered as it began to climb, according to Lieutenant Glenn Lawrence.

The plane cleared the Eight Street, but crashed about 200 yards away next to a commercial warehouse. The structure, at 21877 Schellville Road, was not damaged. The front of the plane was sheared off at impact as the plane careened into a cyclone fence.

The accident is under investigation by the NTSB and the FAA Federal Aviation Administration.
