Intruder makes himself at home

Posted on November 28, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

It was a quiet Sunday evening for a 20-year-old Sacramento resident paying a visit to a Carneros home. He took a shower, found some clean clothes to slip into, cooked himself a meal and then settled onto the couch to watch a movie.

Only one problem. It wasn’t his house.

A guest staying at the home on South Central Avenue arrived at about 7 p.m. to find the back door kicked in and the suspect lounging in front of the TV. The intruder claimed he knew the homeowner, and initially made no attempt to leave the cozy environs.

Sonoma Sheriff’s deputies were summoned to mediate the situation, and arrived to find the intruder attempting to flee the scene through the broken back door.

The homeowner arrived shortly thereafter, and verified that although the suspect was a complete stranger, the clothing he was wearing was familiar – it belong to the resident.

Additionally, a stack of cash and rolled coins were found among the suspect’s effects, according to the Sheriff’s report. That evidence, coupled with the suspect’s statements and shoe-print evidence, tied him to another crime. The nearby Fremont Diner had been burglarized that afternoon. Forced entry had been made, and cash stolen.

The suspect was arrested for the commercial burglary of the Fremont Diner, the residential burglary of the victim’s home and a violation of his Probation terms from a Sacramento County case. He was held on $50,000 bail.
