Walks, hikes, flowers, gardens… April 14 offers lots of choices of outdoor activities.

Rock Walk at Montini
Sonoma Ecology Center’s “Rock Walk,” will teach participants about different geologic features of the preserve This beautiful property, with its open grassland, oak woodland, and excellent outcroppings of basalt once coveted for cobblestone streets, also offers stunning overlooks to San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. Discover the rocks, see traces of active faults in the valley below, and enjoy sightings of flora and fauna. Nursery Workday
A volunteer outing at Sonoma Garden Park. Learn how to propagate native trees from seeds and cuttings. Volunteers will get dirty so dress appropriately: wear sturdy shoes, and bring gloves, a snack and refillable water bottle. Space is limited, RSVP required. 9 a.m. to noon. Walk at Hoosear Wildflower Preserve
Will this week’s showers bring more spring flowers? A guided walk through a variety of blooming wildflowers on the 162-acre preserve near the base of Sonoma Mountain. Free. 10 a.m. to noon. Space is limited. Reservations are required to 996.0712 x124.

Hike on Sonoma Overlook Trail
Guided hike through woods, grasslands and blooming flowers to summit with panoramic views. Hikers should wear sturdy shoes and dress in layers for changing weather. 10 a.m. Free. Trailhead just past Veterans Building on First Street West. 939-7069.

Ten Steps Toward Conserving Garden Water
Master Gardener Linda King will outline ten important steps toward conserving water in the garden at a free workshop. Free. 10:30 a.m. Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa St.
