Lessons from the field

Posted on August 26, 2014 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Living in the vine country has its rewards. Our landscape is scattered with vineyards and our climate is perfect for enjoying life. Sonoma is a world-class wine region, but it also has a lot of talented wine makers, viticulturist and wine enthusiast that make it a great place to live.

Twenty years ago when moved to Sonoma Valley, I met and worked with many individuals who now are legends in their fields (and wineries). They taught me a lot about vines, wine and how to live in such a beautiful place.

Out of all the lessons that I learned, the one that always held true day after day was “Always help your neighbor out, because someday you may be that neighbor who needs help.” For that lesson, I thank you.

Harvest is about to begin — we call it “The Crush.” Two months of controlled mayhem that brings our industry together an end to another season. Even though we work very hard during this time, it’s a time to reconnect with nature and those who are part of our wine community.

Crush is definitely a time to visit the wine country; the smells, sounds and visual aspects of our business are second to none during this time of year.  Tourists and locals are always invited to come out and watch all of us in our labor of love and taste the fruits of our labor.

Our harvest is predicted to begin August 30 for “Vintage 2014.” We want to wish everyone a safe harvest and look forward to seeing you all in the vineyards.
