Sonoma Springs Brewing Co. is seeking the help of beerlovers at renaming their Kölsch beer. Originally named “Uncle Jack” the brewery has since learned that the name violates a trademark owned by an alcoholic industry giant (after a bit of snooping around we think it might be owned by Jack Daniel Distillery Corporation). In lieu of the bad news, the brewery is seeking your help at naming the beer!
“Given that we are brewers and want to focus on making awesome beer for Northern California, we have decided to look for a new name prior to bringing this beer to market in bottles and cans (something we very much want to do!),” the Sonoma Springs Brewing Co. team stated on their Facebook page yesterday.
Kölsch beer originated in Cologne, Germany. This style of beer is described by Wikipedians as being “clear with a bright, straw-yellow hue, has a prominent but not extreme hoppiness, and is less bitter than the standard German pale lager.” Sonoma Springs Brewing Co. makes a tasty one, and it has an outstanding rating at Beer Advocate.
They are asking that all names be submitted on their Facebook page. I suggested “Slownoma Kölsch”, since the beer is one of my favorites they make and perfect for long, slow, Sonoma summer drinking! Leave your suggestions here and maybe your name will be on the can come summer!
