SAY yes to WillMar

Posted on March 26, 2015 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Tess Woodbury, a former WillMar Family Grief & Healing Center participant and current volunteer, speaks about the impact WillMar had on her after losing her mother at age seven. Her remarks came at a reception announcing that Santa Rosa-based Social Advocates for Youth will continue the grief counseling services currently being offered in Sonoma Valley by the WillMar, which last month announced its imminent closure.

SAY provides crisis intervention, counseling and community support to youth and families. SAY has been offering school counseling services in the Sonoma Valley since 1994, with trained mental health counselors at Sonoma Valley High School, Altimira Middle School, and Adele Harrison Middle School.

The services include assessment, referrals, brief interventions, and treatment of students through multiple services, including individual and group therapy. With the agreement between the organizations, WillMar Center’s grief support groups will continue as scheduled, while SAY continues its conversation about how to best sustain the programs for the long-term.

“SAY hopes that with the support of the WillMar community in the Sonoma Valley, we will preserve and expand this program to continue helping children and families heal,” said Communication Manager Caitlin Childs.

SAY Executive Director Matt Martin speaks about SAY’s history in Sonoma Valley, and gives thanks to the youth, staff, volunteers and supporters of WillMar’s programs. Learn more about SAY WillMar Services: willmarcenter.org
