Runway success at ‘Pistons & Pin-Ups’ event

Shellville October 10, 2015More than 250 cool rides — plus vintage airplanes, military vehicles and even a tank — showed up for the “Pistons, Pin-Ups and Pinot” event Saturday at Sonoma Valley Airport.

Sheryl Carlucci, of the host Vintage Aircraft, was blown away by a huge number of participants and spectators . “It was epic,” she said of the first-yesr event. “Like they say ‘Build it they will come’… and they did!”

CarsRogerCain_4707About 250 Show cars, 60-ish gorgeous airplanes, an amazing display of historic Military Aircraft and the Army-National Guard Helicopter introducing kids to the Blackhawk!

_MG_0137 The weather was perfect, the crowd respectful and happy. “The music of Heartstrings Bridge had everyone swaying and hummin’ to the oldies,” Carlucci said. “Petaluma’s Hen House Brewery was on hand to pour their Saison brew (dam good!) and Firestone Walker delivered with their 805.”

IMG_7538Local Sonoma favorites El Coyote, Ultra Crepes, the Green Grocer and Top That Yogurt were on hand, and the event marked the debut of Vin Fiz still and sparkling wines Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, made from local Arnold Drive grapes, had the partakers savoring the swill with nods of approval.

​When the Blackhawk departed, Carluccci said the entire crowd​ cast their eyes skyward, some with hand-over-heart, “and the “WHOOO-HOOS” and exaltation for those amazing servicemen could be heard over the entire airfield.”
