Sonoma Valley resident arrested after wild car chase

On Saturday night, Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies chased a Buick for 17 miles on Highway 101 to Petaluma where police forcibly stopped the car and tazed the driver, who was arrested along with his an 18-year-old Sonoma Valley passenger.

The car approached by police around 10:52 PM on for being stopped in the middle of an intersection, with its headlights off, in southwest Santa Rosa.

Instead of complying with police, the Buick sped through neighborhoods and eventually onto Highway 101, at times topping speeds of 100 miles per hour.Spikes were set out on 101 to stop the vehicle. The Buick was hit intentionally by a Sheriff’s car, which sent the Buick spinning into the center median, where it stopped.

The driver, David Garcia of Vallejo, refused to cooperate with police. He was tazed and taken into custody.

Brian Mena, the 18-year-old passenger from Sonoma Valley refused to cooperate as well, but avoided the tazer and was taken into custody.

Cops found beer in the car.

Garcia was booked on evading arrest, reckless driving, driving under the influence and other charges. He was already on probation for a felony in Napa County and two cases in Sonoma County.

Sonoma Valley’s Mena was booked on obstructing a deputy. However, he was released and he is expected to appear in court.
