The Sonoma Music Festival, planned for October 7-9, has been canceled due to what the organizers described as “very low ticket sales.”

This would have been the 30th year for the festival, which included John Fogerty, Steve Miller Band, and Toby Keith as the headliners.

Last year, Ringo Starr and the Doobie Brothers headlined the sold out festival in downtown Sonoma. The festival used to take place at B.R. Cohn Winery in Glen Ellen. Proceeds from the festival are donated to local charities.

The announcement blamed Desert Trip, a music festival in Indio as the reason for low ticket sales. Desert Trip’s headliners are the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters. It is taking place the same weekend as the Sonoma Music Festival was planned.

The organizers state that “it is apparent that many of our long-time patrons chose to attend those events rather than our event. That circumstance has put our non-profit at a large financial loss, jeopardizing our charitable efforts,” hence the cancellation.

Refunds will be available for ticket-holders after October 1. Visit sonomamusicfestival.com for more details.

  1. OMG….Sonoma Music Fest is cancelled!! Well…how about a nice get-away weekend for all our friends with good wine & food to share…we’ll make our own music!! Love, TOM

  2. Cancelled because of a competing festival in Indio? Nice try. But Indio is in Southern CA, a hard day’s drive from the Bay Area (and another one coming back). It’s even a harder drive for the dwindling demographic of geezers old enough to remember the music of the headliners in the Indio festival. Instead of marketing BS, why not admit that the Cohn Festival whose fan base has always been the North Bay Area has become old hat, has exceeded its sell-by date & that the music line-up was Ho-Hum. Instead, focus on the good news: City residents will be spared yet another swarm of tourists, traffic and drunks.
