To visually suggest the height and mass of the Gateway Project, a mixed use development at Broadway and MacArthur streets, the city has placed what are called story poles on the 1.9-acre property.
The poles, arrayed throughout the long-vacant Sonoma Truck & Auto site, rise to the three-story height of what are planned to be 23 townhomes, 8 flats, 8 apartment units and 4,100 square feet of commercial space.
The project was approved by the Planning Commission, a decision appealed to the City Council. At that hearing in September, the Council voted for further study, to include the placement of the poles.
