Christmas at the Mission

Posted on December 10, 2019 by Sonoma Valley Sun

A tradition since 1986, the downtown buildings of Sonoma State Historic Park will be open, festively lit, and free to visitors on December 14 for the annual Christmas at the Mission event from 4 to 8 p.m.

Refreshments of cookies, cocoa and coffee will beckon passers-by into the 1860’s era of the Sonoma Barracks.

Nestled among Victorian Era craft activities, Kris Kringle awaits visitors in the warm, cozy theatre room. Visit with the living history soldier camp of the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Co. G and participate in a sing along by campfire with the Petaluma Children’s Choir in the Sonoma Barracks Courtyard. The Pickle Creek String Band will also perform.

Just down the street, a celebration of Yuletide transforms the rarely open Blue Wing Inn into an 1850’s living history saloon with hot apple cider and barroom snacks. Make clove oranges or work leathercraft in the east room of this original adobe building.

The popular sing-along with the Sonoma Valley High School Madrigal Choir in the Mission Chapel offers limited admission for three show times: 5pm, 6pm and 7pm. Tickets to the show are required: Come by the Mission entrance (open 10am to 5pm daily) to inquire about availability.

The event is presented by Sonoma State Historic Park and its non-profit cooperating association, Sonoma Petaluma Parks, Inc., (SPParks)
