Writer and adventurer Tracy Salcedo has won a National Outdoor Book Award for her guide, Hiking Lassen Volcanic National Park.
Salcedo, of Glen Ellen, has written over 20 hiking guides to destinations in California and Colorado. She’s also the author of Search and Rescue Alaska and other titles focused on the outdoors.
“It’s always a pleasure to come across a guidebook writer who really knows her stuff—and Tracy Salcedo is certainly that and more,” said the awards jury. “She has been hiking the trails of Lassen for over 20 years, and her many days on those trails plainly show. Everything you need is there: nicely rendered maps, color photos, difficulty ratings, mileage charts, and helpful advice.”
From a challenging climb up Lassen Peak to easy rambles around crystal clear lakes, the “indispensable guide” covers the best of the Northern California national park. The guide book offers detailed information on campsites, backcountry permits, safety, trail finder table, and a list of the author’s favorites, as well as the natural and human history of the park.
Salcedo writes for The Kenwood Press, and has contributed to The Sonoma Sun. Read her poignant story about the Sonoma Developmental Center cemetery.
