Health talks: joint pain, medication review

Posted on June 18, 2021 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The virtual health talk “What’s new in the treatment of osteoarthritis?” will be held via Zoom on Thursday, June 24, from 9 a.m.

Baqara “Maya” Yoder, Sonoma Valley Hospital pharmacist, will discuss new and emerging medication therapies for preventing and managing chronic joint and arthritic conditions.

This talk is open to the community and is co-hosted by the Hospital and Vintage House.

Yoder will review supplements that promise joint comfort, like glucosamine and chondroitin. She also will answer audience questions during a Q&A session.

There is no cost to participate, although reservations are requested. Register online at Vintage House’s website HERE (vintagehouse.org/events) or call 707.996.0311.

Personal Medication Review sessions available

SVH also invites community members to have their medications reviewed for safety in the privacy of their home through a private, personal online visit by Yoder. She will look for any potential problems related to drug interactions, dosing, compliance, expiration, and side effects.

The service is offered by the hospital without cost, but appointments are required.

Sonoma Valley residents can make an online appointment with Yoder for Thursday, June 24, following her talk. Appointments will be scheduled from 10:30 am through 3:30 pm; each is 30 minutes long and will be filled on a first-come basis.
