Put the E back in Cheese Factory

Posted on February 26, 2022 by Sonoma Valley Sun

What does Mark DeMenno’s one-man protest want? An ‘E’. When does he want it? Now!

DeMenno painted his face yellow, donned a cheese hat and yellow clothes, and roamed the sidewalk in front of the Sonoma Cheese Factory today, calling for owner Ken Mattson to replace the missing letter on the side of the famous Plaza destination.

He wants Mattson to buy a vowel. Specifically, the missing E.

The light-hearted campaign includes the funny but fake website, Gofundcheese.yum. But DeMenno’s antics aren’t all tongue-in-yellow cheek. He feels that although Mattson’s companies have purchased numerous Sonoma Valley properties, they’ve done nothing positive to any businesses. It’s a call to get them to come out of hiding, he says, and share their plans with the public.

It’s likely DeMenno will mount more pop-up protests. Why not — he’s got more paint.

  1. Yay Mark DeMenno!!! Hell yes, we want an ‘E’! Put the Matson’s wealthy feet to the fire and invest in our beautiful community.

  2. The Mattsons history of homophobic and disrespectful FB posts about the LGBQT is not in accordance with our Sonoma values. “E” or no “E”, there is no place for hate in Sonoma.

  3. Way to call the Mattsons out! What do they want with Sonoma??? What’s their end game- show yourselves! I’m glad someone is doing something to drum up attention- I hope the Mattsons see this!!!!!

  4. I miss the Cheese Factory. I used to go there and sample cheese but hang out. There is nothing like local cheese. I always bought some cheese to take home. I enjoyed their lunch counter too. Losing a local long term business much favored by locals and visitors are hard too make up.
