The day they sailed Glen Ellen

Bright sunny day, a gentle breeze, two feet of water… It was a beautiful day for a sailboat race on Sonoma Creek.

Sunday saw the return to Glen Ellen of the Jack to Jack Yacht Race, as some 35 tiny yachts, each a replica of Jack London’s Snark, set sail on 50 yards of adventure. The event was hosted by The Jack London Yacht Club at its clubhouse, a.k.a. The Jack London Saloon.

Each 18″ vessel had a sponsor – such as wineries, Valley businesses, individuals and neighborhood groups – to pay $1,000 for a boat, and $250 to enter the race. All the money (plus Club dues and proceeds from other events during the year) goes to charity.

The vessels were hoisted via zipline to the starting point.
