The Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce debuts its Community Connections Breakfast on May 10, a quarterly breakfast series aimed at keeping members of Sonoma Valley’s business community and residents of our region informed on important local topics. Speakers at the first gathering are Caroline Beteta, (above) president & CEO of ‘Visit California with a forecast of upcoming travel season; Zachary Kushel, founder and managing partner of Marin Sonoma Impact Ventures; and Jill Gregory, executive vice president and general manager of Sonoma Raceway. 7:30am, Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn. Grants to youth-focused nonprofits –Speedway Children’s Charities Sonoma invites all Sonoma County nonprofit youth groups to apply for the 2023 grant cycle. This year, priority will be given to programs that support critical needs including food insecurity, homelessness, foster resources, and young victims of trafficking. Last year, $200,000 was distributed to 39 local organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Mentoring Alliance, Sonoma Valley Education Foundation, Redwood Empire Food Bank and many more. On the topic of sleep – Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation, in partnership with UCSF Health, will host its third annual Women’s Health Symposium and luncheon fundraiser on May 24. World-renowned medical experts will discuss cutting-edge information specific to women’s sleep health, with new findings, advice and questions from the audience. Soroptimist International of Sonoma Valley
is an organization with the mission of improving the lives of women and girls through social and economic empowerment. Funds are raised to help women facing hardship, including poverty and abuse, to continue their education to make a better life for themselves and their families. Scholarships are given to younger women to get help with higher education, as well, “ to show young women how they can dream big in their lives.” The club is back to fundraising with a Southern Boil on Saturday, May 20, 6pm at Grange Hall.
