Ema González, volunteer with Food for All /Comida para Todos, talks with a mother at the August 12 Back to School Health and Resource Fair while her children enjoy a sensory experience with water-filled Orbeez beads. A FFA/CPT volunteer explained that fiddling with the beads eases anxiety about the transition back-to-school.
School Board Trustee Celeste Winders, an FFA/CPT volunteer, takes delight in children fiddling with Orbeez. Winders remarked that this year’s event, held at Altimira School, had the largest attendance ever, a sign of the growing need in the Valley. She continued, “This is honestly the most important event in Sonoma Valley because it connects people directly with really important services.”
Maricarmen Reyes, community organizer from the sponsoring Sonoma Valley Community Health Center, reported that 550 backpacks and school supplies were distributed. Comida para Todos/ Food for All signed up 55 new families to receive their weekly deliveries
