K9 sniffs out 23 pounds of meth during Sonoma traffic stop

A Sonoma man is in jail after a search of his car Wednesday uncovered 23 pounds of methamphetamine during traffic stop.
Enrique Sanchez-Arias, 33, was pulled over at about 6am near Stage Gulch Rd and Watmaugh Road. During the traffic stop, the Deputy “noticed several things that suggested the driver was involved in criminal activity,” according according to Rob Dillion of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
The Deputy and his K9 partner conducted an “exterior sniff” of the vehicle for narcotics and alerted there was an odor of narcotics inside the car. The Deputy then searched the vehicle and located approximately 23 pounds of methamphetamine inside the car.
Detectives interviewed the suspect, and based on information the suspect provided, they wrote a search warrant for a residence in Vacaville. More drugs, along loaded guns, were discovered during the subsequent search:
• Approximately one-half pound of methamphetamine
• Approximately 1 kilo (2.2 pounds) of fentanyl
• Approximately 1,500 fentanyl-laced fake M30 pills
• Three loaded firearms (one stolen)
• Additional ammunition
Sanchez-Arias was booked into Sonoma County Jail for felony possession of a controlled substance and felony transportation of a controlled substance. His bail is $250,000.
